Researched Essay Cover Letter
Throughout the entirety of this course so far, I‘ve mainly had a recurring role in tailoring towards one specific audience. That audience being those of hispanic heritage or backgrounds, and I continued this same path in phase 3 as well. Using a specific topic in that category for my researched essay that I knew would stand out to that audience allowed my writing to greatly appeal to them. Even including personal experiences towards that matter, seeing that I myself am a Hispanic American having gone through assimilation throughout my life. I think the most important thing that I took away from this phase is that there are countless research topics and ideas that should genuinely be furthest explored and put out into the world for others to see. There are so many things of importance that should really take a high point of priority that not many people even put into consideration or talk about. One of these including my own topic of an increased amount of Hispanic assimilation throughout the United States as well as its ties towards discrimination of the hispanic people as well.
I believe argument, purpose, author, and evidence definitely had the most impact on my learning and writing practice throughout this phase. One of the main targets and purpose of this assignment in general is to be able to recognize and define an author’s argument and purpose of that argument throughout their writing. Reading through articles and being able to define an author’s specific argument and purpose for their argument and claim is very essential in finding credible sources towards our intended research. Not only that, but also the evidence that they tie into their articles as well plays a huge part in backing up their argument and helping us to further our research. Being able to focus on things like this, which I never personally paid much attention to in the past was different for me. However, being able to see and describe the different types of strategies authors may use in order to get their argument and claim across through their writing paints such a bigger picture in the author’s overall intent. Not only this, but it allows us as readers to take a completely different view on the author themselves, and the higher purpose they intend towards their articles. This of course goes hand in hand with helping us branch out our research and gather together valid articles that we would be able to tie connections to and further our own claims and thesis throughout our writing.
Throughout this course assignment, it definitely helped me to achieve the course learning outcomes seven , eight, and nine. These include “Locate research sources… in the library’s databases or archives and on the Internet and evaluate them for credibility, accuracy, timelines, and bias.” “Compose texts that integrate your stance with appropriate sources using strategies such as summary, critical analysis, interpretation, synthesis, and argumentation. “Practice systematic applications of citation conventions.” These three course learning outcomes have played a huge part throughout the entirety of my writing process for the researched essay. Starting with number seven and scouring the internet as well as the library’s databases for accurate articles to help support my own thesis and writing topic proved to be very difficult at first, but soon became easier and easier as I got the hang of it. Then taking these articles and connecting them together throughout my essay with the use of synthesis and interpreting the information provided within them. Not to mention of course the required citation page for all my sources included. It’s fair to say that these three course learning outcomes were met at the conclusion of my essay, and proved to be very useful throughout my writing process as well.
